The Aloe Vera is a short stemmed plant that grows between 2 to 3 feet. Its thick leaves contain the aloes gel which is used to treat many common injuries. Aloe has been a well known source of relief from burns; tests showed that aloe suppresses the pain producing agent bradykinin. The use of aloe as a home remedy has been documented as far back as the time of the pharaohs in Egypt. The English have also been steadily importing aloe Vera since the 1670’s.
Multiple historical records suggest that aloe has been used to treat other ailments as well; from sunburns, digestive problems, even as a beauty cream. Today, aloe gel is a widely used component of burn remedies. And further research shows that aloe can also be used to treat frostbite. Frostbite victims treated with aloe show less signs of developing infections and other complications.
